Valentine’s Sickness

Posted by hrgarippa on 13 February, 2006

I learned something interesting today,

St Valentine was the patron Saint of Epilepsy reason was that he was supposedly a sufferer and took a keen interest in those who suffered from this affliction and also that those who suffered this disease were suffering from Valentine’s sickness.

Maybe this is another reason why I love Valentine’s Day so much.

The Greatest Commandment

Posted by hrgarippa on 13 February, 2006

Tomorrow is the day of love….

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.” Matthew 22.37-40

About a month ago a friend of mine pointed out that Valentine’s day is the most christian of all holidays. Whether or not the world realizes it is the holiday that celebrates the greatest commandment…love. And it also has not been completely corrupted yet and is still a pretty sweet day.

I hope everyday is Valentine’s day for you all.

Circulatory System

Posted by hrgarippa on 11 February, 2006

Valentine’s Day is in three Days…

And I am going to post this quote that was sent to me by my good friend who is living in Northern Ireland.

The main evidence of maturity in the Christian life is a growing love for God and for God’s people, as well as a love for lost souls. It has well been said that love is the “circulatory system” of the body of Christ.

The Way of Love

Posted by hrgarippa on 9 February, 2006

Valentines day is in five days…

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing. 1 Corinthians 13.1-3

Love is Life

Valentine’s Day is in Six Days…

“Love is life. All, everything that I understand, I understand only because I love. Everything is, everything exists, only because I love. Everything is united by it alone.” – Leo Tolstoy

Valentine’s Day

Posted by hrgarippa on 7 February, 2006

Is in seven days.

L is for the way you look at me.
O is for the only one I see
V is very very extraordinary, and
E is even more than anyone that you adore.

That crazy action called L-O-V-E, let’s celebrate it all year long.

Love

Posted by hrgarippa on 17 December, 2005

I have been looking at 1 Corinthians 13.1-13 – the love chapter…in my mind I have always gone straight to romantic love. Maybe that is because this is the scripture that is always read at weddings and such. But this is the kind of love we are to have for everyone. Can you imagine loving everyone like this? I certainly can’t.

Love is patient
Love is Kind
Love does not envy
Love does not boast
Love is not arrogant
Love is not rude
Love does not insist on its own way
Love is not irritable
Love is not resentful
Love does not rejoice at wrong doing
Love is rejoices with the truth
Love bears all thing
Love believes all thing
Love hopes all things
Love endures all things

I’m not going to mark the ones in which I fail at because if you are my friend you already know. But that is quite a list of ways in which we are to love. When this scripture is used in a wedding ceremony it is almost as if the bride and groom are sealing it in the vows, not that they won’t mess up. But they are affirming that they will love in these ways. I sort of think these should be mental vows that we all take, I Hannah promise to love you Christy patiently, kindly, without envy or pride, etc. etc. and the same it should go for everyone we meet. We aren’t just called to love a select few, we are called to love our neighbors. Loving in this way is what opens our hearts to full blessing the Father has for us.

I love how this section in 1 corthinthians ends, The Message, I think says it best,
Trust steadily in God, hope unswervingly, love extravagantly. And the best of the three is love.

The BEST of the three is love.

Great Quote

Posted by hrgarippa on 16 November, 2005

I discovered this great quote the other day,

Love is not blind it sees more not less.
But because it sees more it is willing to see
less.
