made for His glory

living in pursuit of that

Dear Daddy,

Posted by hrgarippa on 10 June, 2009

Last July while I was vacationing in NYC with my family I had a seizure, these aren’t uncommon for me, as I have Epilepsy, however they aren’t common either as I take medicine to control them.

My parents, my sister Rachel and her husband Ryan along with their kiddos and my sister Mary along with her fiancé Josh were enjoying an average day in NYC when we all had to “use it” so we decided to go “use it” in style and went into Bloomingdale’s. As I exited the bathroom on the 7th floor that is where it happened, right there in the linens department. I don’t remember any of this, but here is what I do remember….

I was being strapped on the gurney, I was completely disoriented and I was crying…I kept saying over and over again, “What happened? What happened?” And there came the kindest, gentlest face I know…my daddy. (fyi…I’m crying just thinking about it.)

He said, with a smile on his face, “You had a seizure, Gienias*, but you’re okay and we’re taking you to the hospital.” He then loaded up into the back of the Ambulance with me and just sat there smiling at me. I just laid there crying, and he just smiled, that great Daddy, reassuring smile.

I’ve been thinking about that day a lot lately, thinking about my dad and all that he is to me…all he has been to me.

I have a GREAT dad.

He is strong and reassuring. He loves the Lord and has taught me to love the Lord. He is compassionate and compassionately cares for all his children and all those who are in his care. He taught me to love cooking, to love music, to love hymns, to pass in the left lane, the capitals of all 50 states, and pig Latin. He reminds me daily that “Jesus Never Fails.” And no matter what the situation of his life or my life, I know that he loves me. In fact he wrote me a poem once it says,

I’ll love you forever
No matter whatever
Our hearts will not severe
No never, no never.

I’m so thankful for my dad, so thankful that God designed before the foundations of this earth that Robert John Garippa would be my daddy.

 I love you, dad.

Gienias…His nickname for me.

Your dad is pretty great Hannah. He was a wonderful boss and exhibits all the characteristics that you described at work as well. I was so blessed to work for him.

How beautiful, Hannah! How beautiful that he was right there with you. It’s amazing how his being there makes the story of a seizure a story of beauty and of peace.

So glad that I get to see you in just a few weeks at my wedding. So glad that your daddy will be performing the ceremony!
