By the way, I found out recently that this haircut, the one on the right, is called “The Booty.” It is so on target because it looks like booty if you ask me. But the kid wearing it is pretty adorable.

Right Now

Posted by hrgarippa on 17 April, 2007

I know this doesn’t have anything to do with anything I usually talk about but when I was in high school this commercial was on the air and I was discussing it with a friend today and remembering how much I loved it. I felt truly inspired to drink soda.

Happy Hill Farms

Posted by hrgarippa on 12 April, 2007

Lately we’ve been trying to figure out how we can offer more to our kids, how we can give them every opportunity in a world that has given up on them. We have discovered a wonderful place call Happy Hill Farms this working farm is a place for kids that are teetering on the edge. It provides them with a safe and loving home, a fully accredited (good) school, and they have to earn their keep by doing chores in the home and on the farm. It is the most serene place. Everything works on the reward system, when you do as you are suppose to do you allowed more privileges. It seems like a place where our kids could thrive.

We have several who need Happy Hill Farms, they desperately need to move out of West Dallas, out of the DISD and into and more structured environment. Some parents are ready to send them, some are not. Please pray with me that they would have this opportunity.

Some of the barriers are, money (it costs $2300 a month), parents, the kids themselves, and of course being accepted.

1st Annual West Dallas Carnival

Posted by hrgarippa on 9 April, 2007

March 31 we had a community-wide Carnival. Four Ministries participated; Mercy Street, Voice of Hope, West Dallas Initiative and First Baptist Dallas. Over 1000 people from the community attended.

Unfortunately because of the weather we were unable to use the rides, (we had a pirate ship, fun slide, and swings like at the fair) but we had over 20,000 Easter eggs for the egg hunt and plenty of carnival games. We served over 600 Hamburgers and over 500 Hot Dogs. The kids played football and soccer, it was an absolutely wonderful day.

Here are some pictures.
