There is significant spiritual warfare being felt here at our ministry. Those of us who work here are feeling slightly complacent, we are at times struggling to keep our heads above water and our eyes fixed on our Helper. “The battle belongs to Lord,” the Word says but the despair seems so great and the fight so large that it is hard to trust that.

There is a woman that is spreading lies about MS, she is telling the community that we are telling the children that they are stupid and will not achieve anything. She is angry because of true information that we pulled from the census bureau and published in our brochure. She has been trying to rallying the community to form a picket line outside our building in order to shut us down. She has never spoken to anyone who works here, in fact she refuses to. Thankfully the Lord has arranged for several interventions were we have been able to diffuse her lies.

I’ve been thinking today of the vision of others, like our director. This ministry started because he was sensitive to the Lord calling him, and he answered. He simply said yes Lord use me, I will do what you want. It angers me that there are now those who would take this beautiful vision and seek to destroy it. I know that is the world we live in, but it just grieves me. It breaks my heart. I hate this world. I hate the devil.

Friends who read this, please o please pray for us. I know that joy comes through suffering, and there is tremendous joy in what we do. But with visions of a picket line, I’m understandably a little nervous.

One year ago today

Posted by hrgarippa on 15 February, 2006

One year ago today is when I celebrated my birthday in a way I never had before and in a way I will always remember…with kids. Rissah, Steven, and Joey (Rissah is my student who I mentor – Steven and Joey are her Uncles 13 and 10 respectively) came bounding into Mercy Street at about four o’clock carrying a ragged pink bag filled with all kinds of trinkets. They gave me used nail polish and opened candy and half empty lotion and pretty much anything you can imagine finding in a junk drawer. They also gave me a card that said,

Roses are red
Voliets are blue
I hope your birthday is as crunk as u
(I had to ask what crunk meant)

Rissah drew a picture of a rose for me, and Steven drew picture of “Super Girl Tweety” for me. We celebrated with Red Velvet cake and lots of laughter.

I think this was the day that I knew that I was where I was meant to be. I wouldn’t trade half empty lotion for anything in the world. It was the sweetest gift I’ve ever received.

Valentine’s Sickness

Posted by hrgarippa on 13 February, 2006

I learned something interesting today,

St Valentine was the patron Saint of Epilepsy reason was that he was supposedly a sufferer and took a keen interest in those who suffered from this affliction and also that those who suffered this disease were suffering from Valentine’s sickness.

Maybe this is another reason why I love Valentine’s Day so much.

The Greatest Commandment

Posted by hrgarippa on 13 February, 2006

Tomorrow is the day of love….

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.” Matthew 22.37-40

About a month ago a friend of mine pointed out that Valentine’s day is the most christian of all holidays. Whether or not the world realizes it is the holiday that celebrates the greatest commandment…love. And it also has not been completely corrupted yet and is still a pretty sweet day.

I hope everyday is Valentine’s day for you all.

Circulatory System

Posted by hrgarippa on 11 February, 2006

Valentine’s Day is in three Days…

And I am going to post this quote that was sent to me by my good friend who is living in Northern Ireland.

The main evidence of maturity in the Christian life is a growing love for God and for God’s people, as well as a love for lost souls. It has well been said that love is the “circulatory system” of the body of Christ.

The Way of Love

Posted by hrgarippa on 9 February, 2006

Valentines day is in five days…

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing. 1 Corinthians 13.1-3

Love is Life

Valentine’s Day is in Six Days…

“Love is life. All, everything that I understand, I understand only because I love. Everything is, everything exists, only because I love. Everything is united by it alone.” – Leo Tolstoy
